David Mann: Attorneys and Addiction
Manage episode 403111623 series 3461956
Today we’re discussing addiction in the legal profession with The Other Bar’s resident life saver David Mann. This includes how to recognize it in others and yourself to minimize risk in your practice. Why should we listen to David Mann? Because he’s been there. On one hand, David’s bio reads like a 001%er: Valedictorian not only in high school but college. Stanford Law. A top white shoe law firm, with a pivot into heavy criminal trial work as a public defender, then private defense. But on the other side was methamphetamine addiction leading to a felony conviction, bar resignation, two failed rehab stints, and life on the streets in San Francisco.
David’s redemption story led to a third, successful, rehab. With his journey and unique perspective, he eventually found himself in a critical role with The Other Bar. The Other Bar is oversimplified by saying it is AA for the legal community – that only touches the tip of what it does, and David will tell us more about it today. David’s wise shepherding saves lives, saves practices, saves clients, and saves families. Please enjoy this very personal conversation with David Mann as we go deep into addiction and recovery. The Other Bar is a nonprofit that can only save lives through our support.
