Dream Job Ready Episode 12: Mark 'Howie' Howard (Cricket & AFL Commentator & Podcaster).

Mark Howard (better known as Howie) is a long-time successful sports journalist, presenter and commentator in Australia.

He's a lead commentator on Network 10's coverage of Australian and International Cricket, and commentates the AFL (Australian Football League) on Triple M radio.

If you work in media or are studying to enter the industry, Mark gives up invaluable advice throughout this episode about the do's and don'ts of successful broadcast journalism.

As he says in the interview, he's done it all and said YES to every opportunity that has come his way. He "stumbled" into his career, but has gone from strength to strength with this mindset and backs it for anyone just getting started.

He also shares some great 'how to' tips about commentating and interviewing top talent. Howie hosts his own Podcast series called "The Howie Games", which has racked up over 20 million downloads from over 100 episodes. He's interviewed the who's who in professional sport.

I ask him a stack of questions I hope students, graduates and young journalists will find helpful, and he shares some amazing insights and stories while we're discussing his career - explaining how he got started, how he built his experience and how he continues to develop his skills even as a house-hold name.

I think Howie enjoyed the opportunity to be interviewed instead of doing the interview, and I really enjoyed the chance to learn more about his rise to the top and his Dream Jobs.

Big thanks to the University of Wollongong for supporting Dream Job Ready and for everyone listening, rating, subscribing and sharing this podcast series.
