Free Diabetes Testing in Geneva

The Geneva Diabetes Association diabète genève are currently holding 3 days of free testing for diabetes at the Balexert Shopping Centre from Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th September 2024. Geoffrey Katz, Vice President of diabète genève joined us in the studio to tell us about testing and explained who's most at risk, and what a positive result might mean in terms of simple lifestyle changes to help manage Type 2 diabetes.

Testing continues today and tomorrow at Balexert Shopping Center - at the small square below the cinemas
Friday 13 September - 9:30am to 6:30pm
Saturday 14 September - 9:30am to 5:00pm

The test itself is simple and quick. There's no need to fast beforehand and registration can be done on-site at Balexert. Results come back after a few minutes. If positive, you're guided through lifestyle changes that can help manage Type 2 diabetes, and if results show you're pre-diabetic, you actually have the opportunity at this point to reverse the diagnosis with exercise and diet.

Since 2016, diabete genève has tested 12,152 people. More than 3 out of 4 of the people tested diabetic or pre-diabetic were unaware of their condition.

It is estimated that there are approximately 25,000 diabetics and at least 25,000 pre-diabetics in the adult population in the canton of Geneva. More than half of the people with diabetes are unaware of their condition. The consequences of not diagnosing it can be very detrimental to health.
