Am 25. April 1974 ereignet sich in Portugal ein kleines Wunder: Ein nahezu unblutiger Militäraufstand beendet die langjährige Diktatur. Die jubelnde Menge steckte Nelken in die Gewehrläufe von Soldaten. Für die unblutige Revolution spielte Musik eine wichtige Rolle. Etwa das Lied "E depois do adeus“ (deutsch: "Und nach dem Abschied") von Paulo de Carvalho. Es war Portugals Beitrag beim Grand Prix d’Eurovision 1974. Gerade einmal drei Punkte gab es für das Lied in Brighton - aber in der Heimat löste es die sogenannte Nelkenrevolution aus. Als es im portugiesischen Rundfunk gespielt wurde, war dies ein erstes Geheimsignal an die aufständischen Truppen. Kurz darauf folgte die Bestätigung durch das Abspielen von "Grândola, vila morena" - bis heute so etwas wie die Hymne der Revolution.
