Thomas Sewid is fast becoming one of the most recognized Sasquatch investigators who shares his experiences with Sasquatch with many through his Facebook group Sasquatch Island. For decades Thomas lived in bush throughout what is called The Broughton Archipelago off north eastern Vancouver Island British Columbia. An area rich in reports and sightings of Sasquatch or as his Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations (Indian) Tribe call them, Dzoonakwa.
Dzoonakwa is the highest ranked crest for the Kwakwaka’wakw people and it’s displayed in their ceremonial Big House’s where the Chiefs host the sacred ceremony called Potlatch. At a Potlatch people will witness a Chief share his crest and ancestral story of Dzoonakwa by seeing a dancer in carved mask and regalia perform on the floor in front of hundreds. Each regalia and story sung by drummer/singers is amazing to behold.
Envision a ceremonial Bighouse interior with massive cedar logs carved with animal and spiritual creatures as the support pillars for building. Even the horizontal beams atop the carved house posts are carved. In the center of dirt floor is a massive central fire with a smoke hole high above. Along the back wall sit three or four rows of Chiefs in their traditional regalia. Behind them is about twenty or more drummer/singers encircling a hollowed out log that is their drum to beat upon with batons.
