Barry first found music when he borrowed his sister's record collection when he was about eight and was hooked. When Caroline started it was a new beginning, and he listened to all the stations, but Caroline was his favourite by far. Later he became a singer in a band, then started doing discos when he was 18. Our series of bonus podcasts continues with Matt Maust from Cold War Kids naming his favourite album of the 00s era.
He picks The Good, The Bad & The Queen's self-titled debut - and describes the work by the super group as "the perfect album".
The band consisted of singer Damon Albarn (Blur and Gorillaz), bassist Paul Simonon (The Clash), guitarist Simon Tong (The Verve), and drummer Tony Allen (Fela Kuti). With those icons combining together, there are a lot of different influences at play and Matt explains how the sound of the band is hard to pin down - but very special nonetheless.
He also discusses the importance of British music to him and how, as a youngster, the music from these shores captured his imagination and ultimately ended up bringing him and his bandmates together.
Remember you can check out our full episode with Matt about Cold War Kids in our library, too.
