22. Uplifting Indigenous Voices (w/ Scott Wabano)
Manage episode 313575119 series 3276752
*Trigger Warning:* this episode touches on the recent confirmations of unmarked graves at residential schools around Canada. If you wish to skip this discussion, Scott's interview begins around the 30 minute mark.
As our first episode since July 1st, this week–like many Canadians–we've decided to forego Canada Day in order to share and uplift Indigenous voices. That's why this week, we're chatting with the iconic 2 Spirit designer and stylist, Scott Wabano. Scott is a Cree 2 Spirit Eeyou from Waskaganish, Quebec; they have graciously decided to join us for a chat about what it means to be 2 Spirit and Queer, as well as their journey and mission as an Indigenous fashion designer. We also chat with Scott about what we can do as allies of our Indigenous communities–something we should all be paying attention to not only around Canada Day, but all year long. While this episode may seem heavy to some, we view it as not only an honour to uplift an Indigenous voice, but a responsibility. We hope you enjoy the chat!
