The World Football Programme, on 107.9FM Radio Fremantle for Saturday October 19, 2024.

Penny partners up this week with A-League stats guru, Peter Szkiela. It’s the end of season awards space for the local competitions in Perth, so we recognise those that have entertained us and worked hard to keep our football going. We give thanks to our partners, who support us in bringing you the news- Futsal WA: Perth's Premier Futsal competitions; Gate and Fence Hardware WA, Auswest Fencing and Wrought Iron and Pete, who is behind ALeagueStats.com

Our guests this week are-

Peter Faulks, Football Hall of Fame Western Australia Inductee. We round up local news, banter local and national football and explore Peters journey in football from men’s amateur to women’s state team tours, to bring a Leicester City fan and sharing his Soccer Coaching knowledge on the web. How do we create a better more resourced football environment to ensure everyone can afford to participate and find a place, off the back of several successful Matildas and Socceroos World Cup campaigns.

Teo Pellizzeri, Network 10 Football Commentator. A-League and National Team news and conversations. New National Team coach appointments have Brough new conversations and excitement to our beloved Socceroos and Matilda’s. What is it that we have to do to be better than the former regime? Is the playing style and new faces under our new coach Tony Popovic a deal breaker for success. What will Tom Sermanni bring to the Matildas table that we don’t already have? Perth Glory season preview. (Glory’s team captains were announced at the launch this week). What’s different about the A League this year that will see more of us watching streaming and attending matches than last year? Is it some of the stars being signed, new teams in the league, a highly visible and engaging advertising campaign? Or is the sport speaking for itself?

Samantha Lewis, Journalist and new Impact Manager for Women OnSide. Sam shares her journey in football and some of the defining moments that we all relate to. Breaking crowd records, what did the WWC in Australia leave as its greatest legacy, what defines a Matilda, who are our sports stars today that we didn’t know 10 years ago and what was the turning point. So many great moments to relive in the short space of time that women’s football has rocketed to fame. We discuss all of that and discover just what an Impact Manager is and will be delivering!

Saskia Thajha, Marketing and Communications Manager, Football Futures. What is the role of Football Futures and how does it fit into the football environment here in WA? Where can we find and connect with inclusive football programmes at club level and in the community. How are we faring as a sport in recognising this space and does it need more visibility or resourcing and support or is it travelling at leaps and bounds? What is happening in the South West and regional areas?
