Love God, love people, and change the world. We believe the life and lessons of Jesus aren’t just good advice, but are Good News for us here and now. As a church, we are all about following Jesus and know there’s no end to that journey—we’re more about becoming than arriving. We are committed to becoming a multi-generational, multi-ethnic, multiplying movement of Christ followers, equipping and empowering our kids and students to not only be the church of tomorrow, but the church of today.
AI and digital expert Suchi Srinivasan and fintech practice leader Kamila Rakhimova from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) talk to the women at the vanguard of business, digital, and technology. They’re digging into how these powerhouse leaders got where they are—everything from the joy of projects gone right to the realities of family responsibilities. And crucially, asking: what was that moment you knew you weren't merely getting there...you had arrived? That's when you know you're in your element.

The second half of this chapter shows us how wherever the apostle Paul finds himself, he takes time to see and understand where people are at. He uses his understanding of the scriptures, along with the clarity of the impact of Jesus death and resurrection, to reach people. But he also uses words, culture and prevailing philosophies to show the religious leaders that their own world view is confused. The existence of God makes sense of commonly held values, such as the moral wrongness of killing others, or stealing. These moral values don’t make sense unless the moral conviction is beyond mere humanity. Who makes the rules, or sets those convictions in our hearts if it isn’t God? And how do we come aginst our prevailing culture in a way that brings people to belief? Paul was also distressed when he saw the city of idols. The word distressed is the same word used by God when he sees the Israelites worshipping the golden calf. It deeply pains him… He wants to free us from the futility of worshipping false idols, into worshipping Him, the only God. This is the story of Hannah, a woman who couldn’t have children (a cultural and economic issue) and was bullied by her contemporaries as a result. She faces profound difficulty, but God hears her cry, and answers her honest distress. We can’t always understand why God allows things to work out in a particular way. But God uses this time to shape something in Hannah that will affect a wider group of people 1. Hannah admits her feelings 2. Pours out her soul 3. Chapter 16 includes the incredible account of Paul and Silas being thrown into jail, without trial and on the basis of a false ‘crowd’ conviction followed by a beating from the magistrates. Their response is to pray and sing praises to God whilst being held in the stocks! This leads to an earthquake, and they’re miraculously released from the stocks, but instead of walking away, they eat with the jailer and bring him and his whole household to salvation! There are many lessons for us in this passage; some key questions that God seems to be highlighting to us at the moment are: 1. What might make me susceptible to the pressure of a crowd? 2. What issues am I currently facing which are filling my mind, preventing me from ‘singing in the stocks’? 3. What’s my reason for ‘singing in the stocks’? The message Hugh Osgood brought to us last weekend indicated that God is doing a new thing. Today, Daniel Jones explores the heart change that God is inviting each of us into that will align us with God’s intent. Using the first half of Acts 16, he explores two key points: 1) Salvation for those around us: we have to recognise that it’s only God who opens hearts to change – our role is to love others by acting in obedience to where and how God is working. We’re not the saviour! 2) Personal reflection: A recognition that our own ability to assess what we can and cannot do is so limited… obedience to following God’s direction is the way to go. Hugh Osgood was with us on Sunday 9th February – a couple of weeks after the sudden and unexpected passing of John Singleton, father of LifeLine and brother to many. John passed away in the early hours of 28th January, surrounded by his family. We are giving God thanks for John’s life, well-lived, which flowed from a deep relationship with Jesus, enabling him to minister to others right up to the end, without seccumbing to the suffering he was experiencing as his health declined. The qualities he exemplified were a reflection of the love he had experienced through his relationship with his heavenly father. This was characterised over 50+ years in his desire to release the potential he saw in others, include those who were marginalised, and facilitate the building of supportive communities at home and across the world. He leaves behind a significant inheritance which the LifeLine family now have the joy of building on. Hugh’s word to us on this particular Sunday was a commissioning word for the next season: Elisha is on his death bed and King Jehoash visits him, using a phrase that Elisha used when Elijah was dying. When someone significant passes away, it’s tempting to become sentimental, as King Jehoash did. But this isn’t the time for sentimentality. It’s a time for gratitude for everything that God has done; a time to fling open the windows and let the wind of the spirit blow through us afresh. It’s a moment for opening up. A direction has been set, and there’s an arrow of the Lord’s deliverance that’s flying. The story in 2 Kings is about a moment of transfer of responsibility. The king was invited to pick up the arrows and then strike the ground. Elisha was clearly looking for a vigorous response, and when one wasn’t forthcoming prophesied the comparably tepid fate of the King’s future endeavours. This is a similar moment for the family of LifeLine – are we going to rise to the occasion with determination? To stay up to date with podcasts from LifeLine Church, please subscribe. When we make mistakes, feel embarrassed by something, or feel like people are laughing at us, or judging us it can cause pain – making it feel easier to withdraw and ‘lick our wounds’. But this gives the enemy space to bring division – disunity among us. By pressing into God we can go beyond our human understanding, and discover how to operate in humility, out of God’s grace – allowing Him to make something really special and good in our relationships together – and this brings unity. Romans 8:18-21 NIV I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. [19] For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. [20] For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope [21] that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. Creation lives under God’s curse and Satan’s control. The enemy lives to steal, kill and destroy. But when we’re saved, we live under God’s rule and reign – it’s a different law, that means we are able to know and live life in full abundance. The desert, or wilderness becomes the very place where we can meet God! In fact we can’t survive without Him! We either turn to Him… or die. Total dependence on Him leads to growth and the ability to thrive in a world which is decaying and under the enemy’s control. To stay up to date with podcasts from LifeLine Church, please subscribe. Acts 15:1-11,22-29 NIV Depending on Christ for His grace… 1) Liberty – the gospel starts by removing burdens from us. We are unburdened and saved by grace! 2) Community – we’re equipped to live in unity with one another; those little irritations no longer have the power to divide us… 3) Purity – God has designed us for intimacy with Him, for dependence on Him. Peter tells us that our hearts are purified by grace. Our culture dictates that pain and suffering are bad things – to be avoided and much of our time is spent trying to find things that make us feel good. The trouble is, it doesn’t work! God’s invitation is to turn to Him, and allow Him, the living God, to be our satisfaction. ‘We must go through many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God’. Are we willing to take a fresh look at this statement that from our cultural perspective we find so very unpalatable? Goliath and the Philistines acted like they owned the joint! But they didn’t… God had other plans, which David fulfilled, because he’d spent years, on his own with the sheep, worshipping God, learning to hear his voice, and honing his craft with the slingshot. He’d learned how to defeat the enemy in private, so that when it came to a public showdown, he wasn’t intimidated. Are there areas of your life where the enemy is acting like he owns the joint? In your mental health? In conversations with friends? With your schoolwork?… Listen to how David prepared, how he stepped out with confidence when the time came, and the victory that God gave. God has sent us into the world! The church in 46AD wasn’t so different to today’s church. It was full of lots of different kinds of people, joined together by God. They had previously been involved in all kinds of competing things – yet now, united by Jesus, they were worshipping together. As they worshipped, the prophetic word of God emerged, was weighed by the apostles, and developed into action – various people were sent by the church to take the good news of Jesus to other places. Do we understand that we need a deeper relationship with God in order to receive a second touch from Him? Do I feel like a should be in a deeper relationship with God? A place where the power of God transforms my life – More than simply coming to a church meeting? Jeremiah 33:1-3 NIV While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time: [2] “This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name: [3] ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Mark 8:22-26 NIV They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. [23] He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?” [24] He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.” [25] Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. [26] Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into the village.” Sometimes the anointing may come in a way we don’t like or want… To stay up to date with podcasts from LifeLine Church, please subscribe. This chapter covers Peter’s imprisonment by Herod, and subsequent miraculous escape; his return to the believers (and their unbelief at who they were seeing); and Herod meets his end. In this talk we’re challenged to think about: Who or what we rely on Our unbelief (what do we struggle to believe?) Who we exalt (is it ourselves, our ideas, friends, family, God….?) God is challenging us to live in a greater degree of integrity and devotion.
