“That's taxpayer’s money that is going to support research and development and pilot projects to develop a food system that is based on environmental destruction and greed and disregard for animals, fish, and any of the other marine mammals that might be around it.” - Andrianna Natsoulas Andrianna Natsoulas is the campaign director for Don't Cage Our Oceans, an organization that exists to keep our oceans free from industrial fish farms. Offshore finfish farming is the mass cultivation of finfish in marine waters, in underwater or floating net pens, pods, and cages. Offshore finfish farms are factory farms that harm public health, the environment, and local communities and economies that rely on the ocean and its resources. Don’t Cage Our Oceans are a coalition of diverse organizations working together to stop the development of offshore finfish farming in the United States through federal law, policies, and coalition building. And, although it is not yet happening, right now the US Administration and Congress are promoting this kind of farming, which would be nothing short of disastrous for the oceans, the planet and the people and animals who live here. dontcageouroceans.org…

In this episode, Nancy and Sarah talk about why board culture matters and how to intentionally shape it. They explore four key areas—change, inclusion, learning, and conflict—and share practical tips on how to spark meaningful conversations. Tune in to learn how cultivating a strong, adaptable board culture can create a more engaged, collaborative, and resilient team. Nonprofits are supported by people at all stages of life. When we invite more conversations about legacy, we help the people who care about their mission consider how they can support the causes they care about when they aren't here anymore. In this episode, Nancy and Sarah reflect on some lessons Nancy learned with her mother's passing. They discuss: Why it is helpful to have a fundraising strategy that offers many ways to support across donor life stages What a nonprofit can do to encourage donors to create a will, which most Americans don't have in place (according to PlannedGiving.com ) How to have conversations about legacy with people in the last stages of their lives Your donors care about your mission. They want you to continue to achieve your mission after they are no longer around to write checks or show up at events. When you invite conversations about legacy into your organization, you invite the stories that remind us why people care about what we do. It is a gift to donors to hear those stories and give them ways to act on their legacy. You got this. Enjoyed this episode? Share it with a friend. Want to request a topic?
