Five years since league reconstruction was last briefly discussed by the SPFL, and promptly batted away into the night sky, Improving Scottish Football Podcast host Kieran Hennigan revisited the topic with a one minute video promoting a 14 team Premiership idea. The video went viral with over 800,000 views on Twitter/X alone. John B invited Kieran onto discuss the pros and cons of a 14 team Scottish Premiership and why he thinks this is the way forward, and not just in the top flight either. There is a good honest discussion about the effects of a promotion/relegation structure, how the 14 team structure works in Greece, would a more even split work better than a top six/bottom eight and also how the setup would improve youth development. Kieran also discusses his plans to evolve his podcast that he hopes one day will see those at the top embrace change, with league reconstruction just one of many areas in Scottish Football that needs addressing. We're back with our next installment of the Championship specials as John is joined by fans from 8 of the teams in the league. David is on representing Queen's Park for the first time along with Alan, Ali, Heather, Katie, Cammy, Euan and Robert. It's the biggest Championship episode we've done as they continue to grow. The podcast kicks off by looking at the title race. Are all three of the fans involved confident? There is an interesting race for the last Premiership playoff spot with it being safe to say that some fans are more confident than others that they'll succeed. Have Airdrie left things too late to avoid the drop? Katie gives her views on whether they can stay up. We conclude the podcast by getting the guests to pick cult heroes from their clubs and discuss some of the best players in the league this season. Thanks as always for listening! Following two defeats for SWNT in the Women's Nations League, Dave is joined by John Bl to pick over how the games against Austria and Netherlands went for Scotland. With Emma Lawton coming in and getting the opening goal of against the Dutch, they consider if she's now a mainstay, as well as wondering if Michael McArdle will still be the interim coach when the next set of fixtures come around in April. Longer term, there's questions as to where the next manager will come from and if that might be further afield than Scotland once more. Of course, after two defeats, there's questions around the possible defensive frailties that led to the goals, especially in two narrow defeats in what could be a tight Nations League group. Looking forward, the SWPL moves into its post-split phase and with four teams level on 51 points it's an exciting final ten games ahead in terms of the title! Thanks as always for listening! On our latest episode we have John, Charlie, Laurie, Paul, Stephen and the two Graemes on. The theme of the podcast is cult heroes and we kick off the show by asking everyone to define what they think a cult hero is. There are some interesting shouts with some of the panel giving players that played for the club they support. Others went for a mixed group of players within Scottish football or further afield like Italy. We give some shout outs too for players mentioned by supporters of other clubs in the Premiership. On our latest episode we have regulars John, Charlie, Laurie, Josh and Stephen on to discuss the weekend action and more. We kick things off by getting Stephen's thoughts on the appointment of Michael Wimmer at Motherwell. This leads on to some chat about whether Motherwell and Kilmarnock are looking to avoid 11th or have aspirations to be in contention for Europe. The rest of the games in the Premiership are discussed and the struggles that Dundee and Dundee United have been having in recent weeks. There was an announcement last week about The Challenge Cup format changing as of next season with the aim of more Scottish players between age of 16 and 21 getting more opportunities. We give our thoughts on this and what we think would work better. Thanks as always for listening! Dave is joined by regular guest Eva Murray for the latest look across the women's game in Scotland. First up is a look at SWPL1 and how the title race is hotting up with just two points separating the top four and six points separating the top five. Further down the table, the race for the top six continues, as well as a resurgent Aberdeen who are probably just a bit too late to be joining that battle. With Motherwell four points clear of Partick Thistle and the split just three games away, is it theirs to lose? The weekend saw Scottish Cup action, with Glasgow City edging out Celtic in the tie of the round. There's a look back at that, the other games that took place, and the draw for the fifth round. Finally on the international front, Michael McArdle will be in charge for the two fixtures in February, including the Netherlands visit to Hampden. Whilst there's also a look further forward to the double header against Germany, with the home game taking place in Dundee. Thanks as always for listening! To end the podcast we discuss the upcoming Scottish Cup ties and whether we think there will be any shocks. Thanks as always for listening! The lack of consistency or competiveness of the league is discussed in terms of baffling it out for 3rd to 11th. There are plenty teams who have improvements to make. We discuss the January transfer window so far and find out where teams still need to strengthen. Thanks as always for listening! In the first women's football podcast of the new year, Dave is joined by returning guests Casey and Grant to discuss what's been happening in the SWPL lately. With Glasgow City currently in the driving seat at the top of the league, they discuss what that might mean for the title challenge. Has the Rangers title challenge faltered due to a lack in midfield? Will Celtic, free from the distraction of Europe, have a stronger second half to the season? Will Hearts and Hibernian continue to keep it interesting at the top and make it a five team title race? Further down the league table there's a lot to discuss as well from who'll make the top six to who the relegation candidates are, particularly that third from bottom spot which is currently only separated by goal difference between Montrose and Aberdeen. They also discuss who the stand out players have been so far this season, what the BBC Scotland TV deal might mean for the SWPL, and have a preview of the weekend's action - assuming the weather permits it! Turning briefly to the national team, they are of course currently managerless with the departure of Pedro Martinez Losa. Hopefully there'll be someone in place ahead of the upcoming Nations League campaign which starts towards the end of February. Thanks as always for listening!
