On this episode, I'm joined by the Ultramarathon Man Himself, Dean Karnazes. Having re-discovered his running shoes aged 30, he ran 30 miles that night (what a birthday)! Since then his feats of endurance have been no less astounding: 50 marathons in 50 States (in 50 days), ran a marathon in the coldest part of the world, Badwater Ultramarathon and the race to Sparta, to name but a few. He has written about his adventures in his fours books: Ultramarathon Man, 50 Marathons in 50 days, Run! and Road to Sparta. He is currently working on his fifth book. His writing style is so full of excitement and wonder, it's no surprise that so many others have followed in his footsteps! In this episode, he shares his thoughts on how running far has changed his experience of life. We even delve into his favourite running book, favourite fictional (movie) running character - it's a good one - and what he's got planned in terms of running and travel for 2019! I hope to bring such interesting, Bookish Runners onto the podcast in the coming year. Hold me to it! Happy listening!…
Elizabeth Clor @elizabethclor on Instagram, is a Boston qualifier and finisher who chronicled her journey to her first Boston Marathon in her book, "Boston Bound". Sharing her 7-year journey to qualifying in an honest and raw way with many lessons throughout about the importance of the mind and your overall outlook in any race. The marathon distance can be so daunting but it's all about how you prepare - not just physically - for the next 26.2. "Boston Bound" chronicles the transformation of her thinking and how she learnt to see herself as a person who runs and not base her worth on Race performances. She is running Boston this April (2018) so it will be great to cheer her on this next step!
