What is the Word of God?
“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” - Ephesians 6:17
Many Christians think of the Bible as the word of God, but that’s not quite right. In the Gospel of John chapter one, the logos or word, refers to Jesus. In the gospel, Jesus represents very the presence of God living in our midst.
Further, the Gospel of John in describing the word, makes reference to the Genesis 1 creation story. In this story God creates the world through calling it into existence, through speaking, through the word.
Taken together the word of God is the active presence of God dwelling in our midst whose voice calls us to enter into the new creation that God is making. The Bible serves as a witness to this voice
With our minds squarely focused on salvation, liberation, and deliverance we fight for this world by echoing God’s creative voice in the world.
