Easter Sunday

Dear Mom & Dad –

I don’t have one little iota of news to tell you, but just wanted to say hello & let you know that it’s a beautiful, sun-shiny, very typical Easter morning. The kind of day on which I’d like to take a long ride around Lake Calhoun & Lake of the Isles. I’ll bet Mpls. is starting to reveal some definite signs of spring now. How I wish I could be there!

We had our services at 9:00 AM this morning – it included Communion. Right after the benediction I walked over to the battery & we had a fire mission. We shot a fast volley of Bn 6 rounds (total 72 rounds) which probably sent a couple dozen Japs to their graves. Isn’t it an odd life we lead over here? Sometimes I wonder how the world can ever right itself again.

I was sick to my stomach the other night – first time I’ve been ill in any way since I can remember. It was evidently just a little food poisoning, cuz after getting rid of it I felt OK again right away.

We’re still pushing through these rugged mountains – the going is slow but continuous. We’ve been on the front now for 74 days, and, consequently, everyone is anticipating a rest in the near future. I certainly hope so – our doughboys, especially, need one.

Think I might get up the ambition to take some pictures today. There’s no way to develop them, but I can save ‘em for a future day.

I’m reading “Moby Dick” in my spare time – it’s one of those old favorites I missed back in my school days.
