Dear Mom & Dad –
I’m at the airstrip again for a little flying, reading, writing, & lounging. It’s really a great life. I’m also getting some good exercise down here. We play volleyball every afternoon.
There is a movie here in the neighborhood about every other night. On the odd nights we play bridge or read. Just finished Razor’s Edge by Mangham. The boys around here are all sending for this Forever Amber that is so talked about. These G.I.’s you know are always looking for an opportunity to better their education. Hmm.
Just received a letter from my favorite cousin, Elaine. That gal certainly writes good letters. They have a certain freshness about them that tends to lift the spirits. She has the knack of writing as though she were there having a chat with you. She sent along some pictures of all you folks taken in our front yard. It really tickled me to see everyone looking so healthy & happy. Especially you two – you look younger than when I left. I must have been an awful tax on the nervous system. Daddy looks like he’s wearing the pants to a zoot-suit in one picture. I can see him now – standing on the street with a real pleat twirling a bunch of keys at the end of a long watch chain, & whistling a some little “chick” walking by. Seriously tho everyone looks swell including Grandma. Virgy & Bud look like they’re in 7th heaven – and probably are.
Also got your letter from “the point” telling of all your good times – I’ve missed a lot of ‘em haven’t I? Oh well – shouldn’t be too long now. Sure hope the weather warmed up for you, & that the fish got hungry before you left. Remember – it was always that way. “They bit last week and are sure to bite next week – can’t understand it?”
I have a sneaking suspicion that Dot will be looking over your shoulder as you read this. If so, tell her it’s impolite. She was brought up better than that. She and Arlo will certainly have some fun renewing old acquaintances. Wish I could come along & do the same.
Our food is certainly taking a turn for the better since the fall of Germany. We have fresh meat almost every day now – a thing almost unheard of before. Hamburger for lunch, steak for dinner, and poke-chops tomorrow. No, I won’t get fat – I’ve given up hope. But, so what, cuz I feel great. G’bye for now, gotta write Elaine.
