Date: August 28, 2016 Pastor: Buck Elsmore Sermon Title: Wait for the Promise Scripture: Acts 1:1-11 The author of the book of Acts is the Apostle Luke. Luke was the only Gentile who wrote any of the books of the Bible and was the only scientist among the writers. Luke was surely a great man specially called of God in that he was a scientist, physician, historian, brilliant writer, inspired writer, and Christian apologist. The book of Acts was written between 64-65 A.D. It records the promised descent and operations of the Holy Spirit. It is an inspired account of the the character of true revivals of religion and that revivals are to be expected in the church. The Acts of the Apostles contains a record of the organization of the church. In this book we have many striking and impressive illustrations of what the gospel is fitted to produce, to make men of God who are self-denying and benevolent. This book throws important light on the Epistles. It is a connecting link between the Gospels and the other parts of the New Testament. This book contains unanswerable evidence of the truth of Christianity. It is a record of its early triumphs.
