Continuing with our series called "The Servant King," (A Study of the Gospel of Mark).... In Mark 8:34-9:1, Jesus calls the crowd and His disciples to a deeper understanding of discipleship. He teaches that anyone who wishes to follow Him must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him, emphasizing that true life is found in self-sacrifice rather than seeking worldly gain. He warns that those who are ashamed of Him and His words will face shame when He returns in glory. Jesus also speaks about the cost of discipleship, stating that gaining the whole world is meaningless if it means losing one's soul. In the final verse, Mark 9:1, Jesus assures His followers that some standing there will not taste death before they see the Kingdom of God come with power. This likely refers to the upcoming transfiguration or the arrival of God's reign through Jesus' resurrection and the spread of the gospel.
