The new EU enlargement momentum: new members in a novel context | Civitas on Air & DEBUE #4
Manage episode 404564395 series 3274248
Russia's war of aggression continues to inflict large-scale humanitarian, economic and ecological destruction across the entire eastern neighbourhood. However, at the same time as these devastating effects, the war has also prompted a fresh perspective on the prospect of EU enlargement, which had been going through a rather passive phase over the past decade. Though EU membership is open to any European state, potential candidate need to meet extensive and highly demanding accession criteria, which span across multiple policy sectors, the rule of law and democracy. Our podcast considers the emerging dynamics of EU enlargement through the lenses of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Moldova to see how these two potential members measure up to the EU's accession criteria.
