Pillbox Patti is the alter-ego of hit songwriter Nicolette Hayford. Pillbox joins Country Music Made Me to discuss her less than ideal childhood growing up with divorced parents in different parts of Florida, how her Dad's musical background helped inspire her own artistry at a young age, and how attending the Durango song festival, which her Dad was a part of, inspired her to focus on being a better songwriter rather than an artist. Pillbox and Brendan talk about the 4th of July when she packed up her car and left home for the bright lights on Nashville, how she navigated the first few years in Music City as she developed as a songwriter, and how important relationship were with other up and coming artists like Ashley McBryde and John Pardi. Pillbox explains how a songwriter record she recorded in 2020 helped inspire her to create the Pillbox Patti persona, how important Ashley McBryde's hit song "One Night Standards" was in allowing her to focus on her artist career, and what fans can expect from her upcoming album which was heavily influenced by the tumultuous events of her childhood.
