After almost 40 years of owning her own business, my mom decided to retire (which is great as we now finally have a full-time free babysitter 😂). Growing up, her pharmacy was like a second home. I would spent afternoons there, doing homework, hanging out, having sleepovers when my mom was on call. We would order Schnitzel and Spätzle from the restaurant next door and have dinner in her office. For a time, there was a gas station around the corner and we'd get Nogger Chocs, the most delicious ice-cream that has ever existed. Then, when I had Johann, he got to spend many days and nights at the pharmacy when I was at work. The memories that are linked to her place of work are plentiful and meaningful and so the last few days have been emotional. Thinking about what it means to have a business for 4 decades, I shared my thoughts on commitment, relationships and perseverance in this episode of Boldly Magnificent. Here's what I cover: Being Genuine: The real impact when you take a genuine interest in the people who walk through your door. Adapting Yet Staying True: In business, things change, but how do you pivot without losing sight of your original vision? Work-Life Balance: It's not just a buzzword. I delve into real ways to juggle work with family, and how my mom made us a part of her professional world. Facing Business Challenges: Every business owner hits a few roadblocks. I discuss common challenges and practical ways to tackle them. The Little Things Matter: Small gestures, like remembering a customer's name or a casual chat, can make a big difference. Legacy and Lessons: What does it mean to leave behind a legacy and how to consistently reassess and stay aligned with your dreams?
