Episode 9: Fake "Trek" Fans Love Star Trek Character "Data" and Historical Storytelling in Bahram Beyzai's "Death of Yazdgerd"
Manage episode 321344628 series 3288693
Our guest Austin Slough felt physically disappointed about what we said when we discussed Kidlat Tahimik's "Perfumed Nightmare" because of our complete nonfactual understandings about Eisenhower. Slough hopes to help us clear stuff up so we stop spreading misinformation. (00:17:00) Slough talks about "The Measure of a Man", the the ninth episode of the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Slough shares how he relates to Data and how much he loves him as a character because of how Data as a character asks interesting questions about what a normal human is and should there actually be a normal human. (00:48:37) Walter brings Bahram Beyzai's "Death of Yazdgerd" and the conversation on history continues except this time the focus is the Persian Empire and how the historical story of Yazdgerd gets overlooked because of our society's biased storytelling. (01:08:28) Finally, Swade plans a competition between Slough and Walter to build a story with some plot points from "Cemetery Man" but Walter doesn't understand plot and stories so he completely loses.
