The impact on people that have been ripped off by fraudsters can be financially devastating to lives; with many people loosing thousands of pounds to scams that come in various forms. For example, romance fraud, bank account scams, scammers pretending to be service providers or mail companies asking for a shortfall in postage all dressed up in different forms to extort money fraudulently from a victim. Fraud committed in the UK more than doubled in 2023 to £2.3bn, making it the second-biggest year for scams in the last two decades, and staggeringly accounting for 40% of all crime in England and Wales. In our digital world, the ways in which fraudsters are getting their hands on our money has vastly changed shape, with criminals using artificial intelligence, and every means of electronically contacting us, ie. Text, WhatsApp messages, direct messaging on social media sites, emails, phone calls and much more.
