In 2017, 23-year old Cody Severight was crossing a street downtown when he was hit by drunk driving Winnipeg Police Detective Justin Holz. Justin had been out drinking with buddies from just before 5PM until 8PM when he decided to get into his car and speed through the streets of downtown Winnipeg reaching 100KM/H. After hitting Cody, Justin didn't stop, he didn't call 911, he sped up to 129KM/H, leaving Cody in the street to suffer and eventually die. Justin was eventually formally charged, and sentenced to 30 months in jail in 2019. But he actually recieved full parole privileges only a short time later on August 29th, of 2020.
