In this podcast Dr. Audra Diptee is in conversation with the celebrated and award winning Palestinian author and poet Mourid Barghouti at The Rockefeller's Bellagio Center in Italy. They discuss the creation of state Israel, the Palestinian commemoration of Nakba Day (Day of Catastrophe), the reality facing everyday Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza, and what it means to have a Palestinian identity when the nation of Palestine no longer exists on current world maps. The podcast ends with a recital of one of his poems entitled "It's all so fine." About Mourid Barghouti: He has published 12 books of poetry and several books. In 2010, he was awarded the Palestine Award for Poetry. His poems are published in both Arabic and English. His work has appeared in various international literary magazines including The Times Literary Supplement and Modern Poetry in Translation. He prose has been published in several languages. He was also awarded the very prestigious Naguib Mahfouz Medal for Literature in 1997.
