Boost your brain as you discover what curiosities the brilliant physicist, Prof Robert Hazen, puts inside his fantasy jewel vault!

Bob picks six marvellous gems from his life and work in mineralogy, experimental physics and the origin of life on earth, before ultimately selecting one to treasure forever.

Welcome Inside the Jewel Vault hosted by me, jeweller and gemmologist Jessica Cadzow-Collins, with guests drawn from the great and the good across the jewellery world, who chose six special pieces from their life and career in jewellery to save in a fantasy jewel vault, before ultimately picking just one to treasure forever.

I hope you enjoy listening!

Guest Bio: Professor Robert Hazen is a truly impressive person. He's the only person I know who has both handled moon dust and has a mineral named after him. Bob studied geology at MIT, earth Sciences at Harvard, and a postdoc at Cambridge. He's currently senior Staff Scientist at the Carnegie Institution of Washington's, Earth and Planets Laboratory. And he recently retired as the Clarence Robinson Professor of Earth Sciences at George Mason University. Until 2019, he was executive director of the Deep Carbon Observatory, which was a fascinating global scientific research collaboration. He is a past president of the Mineralogical Society of America. He's written 25 books and hundreds of scientific articles, most recently on possible roles of minerals in the origin of life, mineral evolution, and the coevolution of the geosphere and biosphere.

I want to hear from you!

What special treasures would you put into your fantasy jewel vault, and why? Every so often I’ll compile your stories into a podcast of their own. To get in touch with me and also to access show notes and images, go to: https://www.juraster.com/blogs/insidethejewelvault/inside-the-jewel-vault-with-professor-robert-hazen
