Nearly a week after the expiration of their contract SEPTA drivers are still working and not striking. Negotiations between SEPTA and Transport Workers Union Local 234 resumed today. The union is demanding wage increases and more safety protection for workers, while SEPTA has said it would be difficult to provide raises without a transit funding plan from the state. Local 234 represents 5,000 bus, trolley and subway operators and maintenance workers in the city. Suburban SEPTA drivers have also authorized a strike.
