Conversation with Terry Ng about his Life-Searching Journey
Manage episode 300965833 series 2966472
It's a huge honor to get this interview with Terry Ng from HK.
Here are some key takeaways for today’s show: Terry shared his spiritual journey which coincides with ancient Chinese philosophy yin/yang. The Yin/Yang symbol is composed of the white and black sides, two opposite forces and characters. To apply this concept to understand humanity, Terry believes his life journey started with discovering the dark side of humanity. What matters is to acknowledge our own dark side as opposed to suppress it. Having consciously embraced two sides, we can put less focus and energy to address the dark site. When something happens, we can have a choice between the white/positive side and the dark /negative side. That means we should uphold our values and strengths while abandoning what goes against them. In Yin/Yang dynamic, everything manifests two opposite elements which should exist in harmony.
Terry also reiterates helping people and the community serves as an underlying drive and motive through his career. Working in a giant tech company, he found technology can be used in a wise way to improve the quality of elder’s life and to advance the education system. Although ups and downs occurred at work all the time, he was able to bounce back to continually work with the unshakable drive.
Even when we break down at work or life, it can be a signal or sign the universe sent it out, reminding us of taking a pose and taking a step back. Terry mentioned that mindfulness PRACTICE ( meditation, yoga, etc.,) helps us to focus on our inner voice and true feelings without self-judgment. When we are mindful about what’s going on around us and inside us, we will become less stressed and more capable of seeing the big picture of life and the new path ahead of us.
Terry got an eye of curiosity towards people and a spirit of adventure towards life. He traveled worldwide, truly enjoying opening himself up to different cultures and people where he found pure human connection and life joy. I guess that’s also why he could always embark on every new life journey fearlessly and passionately, even from a fresh start.
In the end, I want to say we are so easily affected and distracted by external noises and the environment. To seek happiness in our life, we need to embrace the complexity of humanity, shift focus to our own inner self, and treasure every little joy we encounter every day.
