1 Timothy 4:7-8
Speaker: Tim Nay
6 if you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the goood doctrine that you have followed. 7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; 8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. 9 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. —1 Timothy 4:6-9
10 For TO THIS END we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. —I Timothy 4:10
- Begin with the end in mind.
- Beginning with the end sets us in the right direction.
Above all else guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life. —Proverbs 4:23
Command and teach these things. —I Timothy 4:11
3. Paul’s spiritual plan for Timothy and the Church is a good plan.
- Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths.
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. —I Corinthians 9:25-27
- Train yourself to be godly.
12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. 15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. 16 Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. —1 Timothy 4:12-16
- Devote yourself to Scripture.
Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. 2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left. —2 Kings 22:1-2 “
. —2 Kings 22:3-5
2 Kings 22:8
—2 Kings 23:4-6
- Practice and immerse yourself in godliness.
1 Timothy 4:15-16
