Comparing the Design of iPhone 16 and iPhone 12

Looking at the overall design, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 12 have a few notable differences. The iPhone 16 has dimensions of 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8 mm, slightly more compact than the iPhone 12 (146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm). However, despite being smaller, the iPhone 16 (170 grams) is heavier than the iPhone 12 (162 grams).

Both are protected by Ceramic Shield glass, but the iPhone 16 uses the latest version, which is more durable. As for the frame, the iPhone 16 also uses premium aluminum, while the iPhone 12 uses aluminum.

The iPhone 16 is equipped with an Action Button and upgraded Camera Control, features not found on the iPhone 12. The front of the iPhone 16 has a Dynamic Island, while the iPhone 12 still has the "notch". The iPhone 16 uses a USB Type-C port with USB 3 standard, while the iPhone 12 uses a Lightning port.

The iPhone 16 features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, similar in size to the display on the iPhone 12. The resolution of the iPhone 16 is 2,556 x 1,179 pixels, not much different from the 2,532 x 1,170 pixels on the iPhone 12, resulting in a nearly equivalent pixel density of 460 ppi.

Neither device is equipped with ProMotion 120Hz technology or Always-On Display. In terms of brightness, the iPhone 16 excels with a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits and a minimum of 1 nit, while the iPhone 12 only reaches 1,200 nits (minimum brightness not disclosed by Apple).

The iPhone 16 is powered by the Apple A18 chip, manufactured on the latest 3nm process, a significant advancement over the Apple A14 Bionic on the iPhone 12 (5nm). The A18 Pro has a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine, more powerful than the 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine on the A14 Bionic.

The iPhone 16 also has 6GB of RAM, larger than the 4GB of RAM on the iPhone 12, enabling smoother multitasking and better handling of demanding tasks. Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 12 have a starting storage of 128GB, while the iPhone 12 only had 64GB.

Comparing the Cameras of iPhone 16 and iPhone 12

The iPhone 16 features a dual 48MP camera setup with a primary camera of f/1.6 aperture and a 12MP ultra-wide camera of f/2.4 aperture. The iPhone 12 also has a dual 12MP camera setup with similar specifications. Both have a 12MP selfie camera and Face ID.

However, the iPhone 16 also supports the latest generation of Photographic Styles, can record Slo-mo 1080p@240fps Dolby Vision video, and 4K@60fps Dolby Vision Quick Take video, providing a more professional video experience.
