Medical Weight Control Podcast Episode 6: Expert Opinion with Natalie Lee on SPRING CLEAN YOUR MEDICINE CABINET
Manage episode 341063326 series 3123434
Last year, in 2018, was the first ever NATIONAL CLEAN OUT YOUR MEDICINE CABINET MONTH. Around this time of year, we hear the phrase “Spring Cleaning,” which could mean a myriad of things with various meanings from cleaning out your closets or your garage to purging and donating old clothes, repainting, remodeling, etc. Out with the old, in with the new.
One thing most households tend to overlook is what lurks behind the mirrored doors of the medicine cabinets. We forget about spring cleaning our medicine cabinets. People, like myself, don’t think to look inside their medicine cabinets as frequently as, say the refrigerator or pantry.
Natalie Lee, the nurse practitioner, Clinician at the Medical Weight Control Temecula clinic and our resident expert, answers your FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1) What are some of the dangers we can find in medicine cabinets?
2) Do medications actually lose their effects after the expiration date?
3) What about old household or beauty products i.e., lotions, deodorants, toothpaste, nail polish, etc.?
4) What are the steps to proper disposal of expired medications, household and/or beauty products?
5) Is it safe to flush them down the toilet? (Will it harm water in storm drains?) Discard in the trash? (What if they fall into the wrong hands?)
