Manage episode 339210509 series 3388545
Franklin Delano Roosevelt delivered his 2nd inaugural address on January 20th, 1937 – the new date that all following inaugurals would follow. Read by Jay! Tomlinson, producer of the Best of the Left podcast (https://www.bestoftheleft.com/) . FDRs 1st and 2nd inaugural addresses are host to some of the most memorable lines, including “I see one-third of a nation ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished,” from his 2nd. Whereas dealing with the Great Depression was the most important part of his 1st term, his 2nd would be just as momentous, with war erupting in the Old World. Though the US managed to stay out of it for the duration of the 2nd term, the beginning of his 3rd would see them enter the fray officially.
