WWL was center court at the Smoothie King Center, presenting a special edition of “The Newell Normand Show,” hosted by Newell and our Saints legend and WWL color analyst (who also happens to be a big Pelicans basketball enthusiast), Deuce McAllister! We celebrated the new partnership between WWL Radio and your New Orleans Pelicans and the start of the Pels’ 2024-25 season. We featured a great lineup of guests: Audacy New Orleans Senior VP & Market Manager Dan Barron, Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin... Head Coach Willie Green... plus Radio Play-by-Play announcer Todd Graffagnini—many of your favorite players—Herb Jones, Javonte Green, CJ McCollum, Trey Murphy III, Joe Alvarado, AND the newest addition, Dejounte Murray. This 3-hour special amplified the relationship between WWL (specifically the BIG 870) and the Pelicans. Our goal is to help grow the New Orleans Pelicans into the Gulf South Pelicans—much like the New Orleans Saints are truly the Gulf South Saints! Also, anybody listening had to be excited about this Pelicans season and thrilled to get to know the players in an honest way. The interviews were informative, entertaining, fun, and more than anything—intimate. People got to hear Pelicans players and management relaxed and with their guards down.
