Episode 25 of the Nielsen Experience Podcast features Jake, a member of our Commercial team within our Emerging Leaders Program, based in New York City. In the beginning of December, Jake and 16 other Commercial Emerging Leader associates and leaders traveled to Houston and worked with All Hands and Hearts - Smart Response to muck, gut and sanitize homes that were broken-down by Hurricane Harvey in August. During the two-week trip, the group logged 571.5 volunteer hours and supported six families affected by the hurricane. In this episode of the podcast, Jake starts off by sharing his journey to Nielsen from Rutgers University, as well as his first rotational experience in our Emerging Leaders Program. He then tells us more about coordinating this volunteer initiative and what he and his fellow colleagues took away from the experience. “We got to meet some of the homeowners, we got to see projects through and through, and it was just absolutely inspiring. One of the words that my colleague kept saying was that it was ‘humbling’ work. It was work that we would remember for a while. It was work that made us sweat and it made us achy, but it was so fulfilling. At 6:00 dinner each and every day, we were able to sit down exhausted but happy that we had done something so different from our day to day but so impactful.” There were so many amazing parts, but my favorite was being part of a team--not only working alongside fellow Nielsen people but working alongside other people from throughout the world who came to Houston just to help. They put everything behind them just to make an impact in somebody else's life. And we were able to accomplish so much because of that. We had a truly selfless week." The Nielsen Experience Podcast is a collection of stories about what it’s like to work at Nielsen—a global independent measurement and data company—straight from our employees.
