River Donaghey grew up in a cult. Or at least that’s what some people called it. His parents called it a “personal-growth seminar group.” Its leader called it “one big happy family.” But there was a dark side to the world River grew up in. One he never heard about as a kid. In the 1970s and 80s, a self-help company called Lifespring took America by storm. Hundreds of thousands of people walked out of Lifespring as true believers, convinced that the seminars had the power to change the world. ...

Ok everybody, we got us some mics to use when we record and we think it went fairly well, with a few glitches in there, but hopefully (fingers crossed) the sound quality is better than previous episodes! Either way, we were excited to use them anyway, like we’re all professional and shit. (Ha!) But anyways, tonight is April’s case! And we’re going way back to the 1600s people, so she can tell us all about one of the most prolific female serial killers that you may not have heard of and there isn’t a lot known about her. But, it is said, she is behind the killing of 600 men. Without ever touching any of them. Her name? Giulia Tofana. She operated behind the ‘facade’ of a beauty and makeup store, and secretly was providing women with a way to get out of the awful, abusive, forced marriages they were trapped in during this time period. How? Murder of course. And we go off on lots of other tangents throughout, because that tends to happen when we get together and it’s late at night. It’s fun for all! Unless you were a piece of shit husband back in the 1600s… We also just want to give a shout out again to That's Not Good: A True Crime Podcast @thatsnotgoodpodcast for the awesome review they left us on Apple Podcasts, and also the ladies of M3: Murder, Mystery and Mayhem @m3truecrimepod for giving us support too! And of course to all you listeners out there, we love you all and be sure to follow us, turn those notifications on, leave us a review (please!) and find us on the following social media sites: Instagram @nocturnaldistractions *Twitter @podcast_nocturn (I totally got this wrong in the episode. I can't seem to remember if ‘podcast’ or ‘nocturn’ comes first. 🤦♀️) Join our Facebook Group - Nocturnal Distractions: A Podcast OR Send an email with suggestions or questions to nocturnaldistractions@gmail.com Website: https://linktr.ee/nocturnaldistractionspodcast
