The Importance of Nevada Day for African Americans Nevada Day commemorates the admission of the state of Nevada into the union on October 31 1864. Some of you may ask why this should be any more important to African Americans than any other state. Fair question and that is why I am doing the show…J. Nevada played an important role in ensuring victory for the North and the end of Slavery for Africans in America. Nevada Day gives us a moment to reflect on that freedom and the role that Nevada played. Nevada has become an important state politically. Often it is seen as a bellwether for the rest of the country. Nevada also has the largest African American population per capita West of Texas.
