Beyond the Blackboard: Stories from PCCSS' "Teacher Chats". This is season 3 episode 10 of the Putnam Proud Podcast featuring Superintendent Eric Arena talking with Denise Billue - ESOL teacher, Amy Kennedy - high school counselor, and Ashlyn Grantham - 4th grade teacher. "Teacher Chats" is an initiative launched by the PCCSS administration several years ago, aimed at fostering a supportive and collaborative environment for educators, especially those in their first-year teaching at PCCSS. This program is designed to open a dialogue between the administration and first-year teachers, which encompasses both educators new to the profession and those who are new to the district. By inviting these teachers to the Board office for a candid discussion about their experiences, the initiative seeks to accomplish several objectives that are critical to both teacher satisfaction and student success. One of the key strengths of the "Teacher Chats" is its focus on feedback. For teachers who are just beginning their careers, this platform offers a unique opportunity to voice their feelings regarding the support they receive, pinpointing areas where the district excels and identifying opportunities for further improvement. This feedback is invaluable, as it not only aids in the professional growth and confidence of new teachers but also contributes to the creation of a nurturing and effective educational setting. For teachers who have experience in other districts, "Teacher Chats" provides a forum to share insights and best practices from their previous positions, offering strategic advice that can help PCCSS enhance its educational strategies. Ultimately, these “chats” represent a significant step forward in building a positive work culture within the PCCSS district. We are confident that this approach not only benefits our teachers, by ensuring they feel supported and valued, but it also has a profound impact on our students, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of a motivated, inspired, and well-supported teaching staff. It is our hope that the ongoing dialogue fostered by "Teacher Chats" will showcase PCCSS’ dedication to creating an environment where staff can thrive, and students can excel.
