In this episode, Alison interviews Nicola Slee about sabbath as a feminist issue. Nicola is a prolific writer on Christian feminist issues and a poet. She is a lay Anglican who has been involved in adult theological education and feminist groups and movements all her working life. Her latest book, Sabbath: The Hidden Heartbeat of Our Lives encourages us to take sabbath seriously and find our own way and pattern to do it.

Nicola talks honestly about her own exploration and development of feminist issues. In the interview, she recommends some books to help people starting on a journey of exploring Christian feminism

· Faith & Feminism: An Introduction to Christian Feminist Theology by Nicola Slee

· Feminist Theology by Natalie Watson

· The Color Purple by Alice Walker

· Motherhood and God by Margaret Hebblethwaite

We also talk about the image of Christa and mention her book Seeking the Risen Christa, which discusses the issue of representing the risen Christ as a woman. The book starts with a history of the Christa being used as an image.

Our History

Alison & Grace were having a conversation in the summer of 2019 about podcasts and they weren't aware of any at the time that spoke to their context, so they decided to set one up. You can hear more about their thinking about the podcast on the Introductions episode.

Grace & Alison both have some theological education, are members of a charismatic evangelical Church of England church and have a desire to explore what it is to be a Christian woman as a feminist today and the implications of that.

The Recovering God Podcast has been in existence since the summer of 2019. The team has changed over those years but we're delighted to still be offering relevant discussions covering the broad topics of feminism and the Christian faith!
