Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.
This week is an examination at how each of edition of D&D has presented their base classes. While the iconic classes have largely been there from the start, the way they were presented is quite different from what we see today. While not an in-depth mechanical examination of these classes (I'll do something like that for each class in future episodes), this is an overview of how things have changed and progressed overall, and how it has landed us where we are today with 5e. Every edition has had it's highs and lows, but you can see how they have each learned and been informed by what came before, and how in some cases they were impacted by the social climate of the time (the Satanic panic for instance!). Tune in this week to go down memory lane if it has been a while for you, or hear about how things used to be if you haven't had experience with the older editions before.
