For several decades, the African American community has had limited access to building wealth. The lack of financial literacy, low income, and systematic inequalities are just some of the challenges that prevent this community from reaching financial independence. But there are quite a few who managed to break through and succeed financially.

Joining Dee Brown in today's episode is Charles Sims, Jr., CEO of Sims Financial Group, Inc., an independent risk management firm composed of experienced insurance professionals. Charles is a member of The Million Dollar Round Table, National Association of Life Underwriters, Financial Planning Association, Life Underwriting Training Council, and The John Hancock Financial Network's Hall of Fame. He is the first African American to be inducted into this prestigious organization and listed among the Who's Who in Finance and Industry. These are just a few of Charles' achievements.

Charles and Dee talk about retirement and estate planning, building generational wealth, and how young people can start their path to financial freedom.

“When you work and you're busy trying to be who you are, it's kinda hard to notice people who are holding you back when you're busting through the door.”
- Charles Sims, Jr.
