After the pure exhilaration of the playoff semi-final, there was quickly a realisation that Orient hadn’t achieved anything quite yet. But honestly, the way this season had gone, it felt like this was all just meant to be and was set up for a fairy-tale ending at Wembley. One team stood in our way, a talented, but not unbeatable Rotherham side, managed by the pantomime villain of the lower leagues, Steve Evans. Fans queued around the corner at Brisbane Road for tickets whilst players helped in the club shop, selling everything from flags to foam fingers. More than 24,000 O’s fans walked down Wembley way on the 25th May 2014, full of excitement for this grand finale. The sun beat down on us as the teams emerged and by the time it had set, we would know our fate.
