Percussionists are often an unsung hero when it comes to song composition. Their performance adds flair and impact to parts of a song that help accentuate the theme and pace.

That's why we are thrilled to have Percussionist Scott Williamson as our guest on this week's episode of the Music for the Soul Podcast. Scott talks about growing up surrounded by music, with a father who was an arranger, producer, orchestrator and music minister. He discovered his passion for percussion at an early age, going on to perform for a wide variety of artists in almost every genre.

Scott also discusses the differences between call session recordings and live performances, the impact that producers have in the creation of a song, and what it has been like to work with so many different groups of people.

Who is Scott Williamson?

Scott Williamson is known as a leading figure on the music scene, working in Nashville since 1990. He is not only a first call session player but is also a highly sought after producer.

Williamson was fortunate to grow up in a musical family with a father who was an arranger, orchestrator, producer and music minister. Williamson had the privilege of constantly being around music – at school, church and the recording studio – and played his first session when he was only 12 years old.

These days, Scott Williamson works with a wide variety of artists, spanning the genres of rock, jazz, country, Christian and more. His session drumming credits include The New Cool by Nathan East and Bob James, Pure BS by Blake Shelton, All the Women I am by Reba McEntire, Welcome 2 My Nightmare by Alice Cooper, Woven and Spun by Nichole Nordeman, and many more.
