AM Edition for July 18

Today’s scripture from Numbers 2:31 speaks of the tribe of Dan, who brought up the rear when the armies of Israel were on the march. Our theme this morning revolves around the humility and honor of serving in positions that may seem less prestigious yet are vital to the body of Christ.

The devotional today encourages us to embrace our roles, no matter how humble, recognizing that all positions in God's kingdom are significant. Whether we lead or follow, we share the same divine guidance, spiritual nourishment, and ultimate inheritance. Reflecting on the Danites' useful place in the rear guard, we learn that every position, even those less visible, carries important duties and opportunities to bless others.

Key Points:

  1. Equality in the Army of God: The Danites, though positioned last, were as much a part of Israel's army as the foremost tribes. They followed the same divine guidance and received the same blessings.
  2. Embrace Humble Roles: Serving in less visible roles can be just as important. Whether in a small village or a back street, our work for Jesus is valuable.
  3. Usefulness of the Rear Guard: The rear guard's role is crucial in picking up stragglers and lost property. Similarly, those with a more conservative spirit help remind the church of its ancient faith and support its fainting members.
  4. Danger and Duty: The rear guard faces danger from attacks, just as Amalek attacked Israel’s rear. Experienced Christians must aid those who are last in faith, knowledge, and joy, ensuring they are not left unaided.
