Manage episode 402717003 series 3554377
What can you imagine for yourself and your social world?
What stories make you think: “that’s what I want for myself”? How can you make it so?
...
Riley Carroll is a 26-year old cat mom, thinker, and author from Chicago. Since completing her master’s in Communication in 2022, Riley has strived to live authentically, imagine new ways of being, and make space for joy which helped lead to the release of her debut novel, What the Blood Sings.
Today, Riley talks about the stories, people, and experiences that led her to become a writer. Abbie and Riley explore the messages we receive about failure and trying; the feedback Riley is hearing about her book and what it means to her; and the way we build worlds, in our real lives and in writing fiction. Riley and Abbie discuss consuming and being consumed; making space for boredom and subsequently imagination; and whether life imitates art or art imitates life (… or both?). Finally, Riley offers us a challenge to simply (or not so simply… TRY)!
