Barry first found music when he borrowed his sister's record collection when he was about eight and was hooked. When Caroline started it was a new beginning, and he listened to all the stations, but Caroline was his favourite by far. Later he became a singer in a band, then started doing discos when he was 18. This week on The Boys in the Band Podcast we catch up with Tahita Bulmer and Andy Spence from New Young Pony Club.
The band came to the fore in the 00s with their blend of disco and electro punk, and their huge track Ice Cream was played everywhere. Tahita tells us about the big effort that went into nailing the brilliant lyrics to that top tune.
With the success of that track and their debut album, Fantastic Playroom, New Young Pony Club were propelled around the world on tour, playing from Hong Kong to Kazakhstan, New York to Sri Lanka and most places in between. The pair share some fantastic stories from those trips.
We also chat about how their sound evolved over their next two albums, the ups and downs of self-releasing their second LP... and why they just hate the tag 'New Rave'!
