Money is one of the most difficult topics to talk about in church and with our groups, yet it’s a popular subject throughout the Bible. Clearly, God has thoughts on how we should view money, but how do we align our view with his? In this podcast, Robby and Lee interview Stephen Newland about how to have a healthy relationship with money that leads to freedom instead of shame and fear.

Main Ideas

  • Society tells us that money is a measuring stick of our worth.
  • It’s common to have fear and shame around money.
  • Contentment is the opposite of society’s measuring stick.
  • We all have a relationship with money—either as a spender or a saver.
  • Money provides a false sense of security; trust your heavenly Father instead of money for your security and future.

Discussion Questions

  1. What would you do if you received an extra paycheck this month?
  2. How did your parents handle money? Do you notice any of those habits in your own life?
  3. Share with your group of guys your "money story." Talk about how money impacted your life and how you felt about money.
  4. Give some words to describe what you want your relationship with money to look like. How can trusting God with your money help you take a step toward that kind of relationship?

The Big Three

  1. What does this mean (for me personally)?
  2. What am I going to do about it (what step of faith is God inviting me to take)?
  3. How can we help?
