Manage episode 445215650 series 3585939
It should be a human right given to us all, to have access to clean air and water and an overall healthy environment, something lacking in many communities of colour and marginalized groups; an issue that is a manifestation of the profound environmental injustice and racism globally.
Rebecca is a Professor at CUNY School of Law and Director of the Center for Urban Environmental Reform. Internationally recognized, Rebecca is a scholar of environmental justice, human rights, and environmental law. Her environmentally themed comic book series “The Environmental Justice Chronicles” created in partnership with artist Charlie LaGreca Velasco introduce readers to the environmental justice challenges faced by urban communities.
In this episode, you will:
- Understand how communities of color and marginalized groups are disproportionately burdened by pollution and environmental injustice and how we are both individually and collectively accountable to fix that.
- Discover how graphic novels and creative mediums can be effective tools for raising awareness and educating people about environmental challenges and the importance of collective action.
- Appreciate the need to vote as a way to make a difference. Early knowledge is vital, and our education systems must engage children in environmental and social justice work.
