To kick off the year, we're taking the trip to Philly with Jill Scott's debut LP Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds, Volume 1.
Released July 18, 2000, the Philadelphia star's Grammy-nominated project was one of the first to introduce a new sound to the music world. From Beyonce using He Loves Me in a 2007 live performance to samples being used to enhance new beats, Who Is Jill Scott was a success that continues to fuel modern music. It was also the album to introduce us to one of the decade's first stars in the soul genre.
In this episode, Vance and Ahmad choose their top 3 tracks, talk about the album's musical connection to the DMV, and discuss her impact on the culture in the modern era of R&B.
