The Thirteenth Hour Podcast #462: Revisiting “There’s a Wild Heart Beating” (acoustic) in Guitar + Piano
https://archive.org/download/podcast-462/Podcast%20462.mp3
This week’s podcast episode is a throwback to a song I did in 2017 – “There’s a Wild Heart Beating” that is to accompany a future Thirteenth Hour sequel soundtrack. I wanted to revisit it in acoustic format to see which would be easier to play live with one instrument, so for this episode, I try it out on the guitar and the piano. There is already an acoustic version out, though no acoustic piano version. The original was a pretty complex song that had multiple synth, vocal, and electric guitar tracks, but it’s really something that can’t be played unplugged by one person, hence the need to strip it down to something more of the singer-songwriter variety.
Thanks for listening!

Travelling inevitably can be stressful (hopefully in a good way), but one that also brings to mind a concept described by Joseph Campbell, the hero’s journey (or heroine’s journey) – involving a usually reluctant protagonist who is called or forced into action and has to grow from their current (usually unassuming state) to become the hero that is needed. After a series of trials, they, if successful, achieve their goal and return back home changed by the experience. A lot of the films that inspired The Thirteenth Hour had this general structure – The Rocketeer, The Last Starfighter (reluctant heroes), The Neverending Story (unassuming hero – a child – goes on a desperate quest), Labyrinth (teenage girl goes on a quest to save her brother) – so it’s no wonder Logan’s journey in the story follows a similar structure.
