I was never the brightest child in my class, but I wasn’t stupid either. Everything I got I had to work hard for. I’d set my heart on being a social worker, I thought that this would be a good way of helping people that were less fortunate than myself. So I got my degree only to find out that I was too young, so I took a year out. That first year was a nightmare. I had worked in a large department store all the time I was a student looking for money to spend. So when I needed a job for a year I approached them. They said yes and put me in the accounts reconciliation department. Anyone that knows me, knows that is a recipe for disaster. I don’t do numbers, I hate numbers, just ask my accountant! So, I was moved to another department to do project management and I loved it and that was me for the next 30 years plus. Not all of it was in the same company, after 10 years I moved to Financial Services where my focus was on property and general business projects. I assumed that would be me till I retired, but it wasn’t! I developed a chronic medical condition which meant that I couldn’t hold down a full time job so I became self- employed. My first business, which was the same work that I had done in the corporate work couldn’t work and for the reasons that I left the Corporate world, my health meant that I couldn’t do long days on site managing projects. So I decided I needed a work which would pay me if I wasn’t working, so I joined a Network marketing company, but that wasn’t for me. I think it is a good business model and I acknowledge that it works for some people. By this point I was running out of ideas , so I focused on producing business documents, business plans, bid proposal, policies and procedures and I love it. It had always been part of the business but now it is the focus. I also realised that the documents that I can produce are the cornerstones to setting up a business so I’ve launched a business launch programme which is for new entrepreneurs who want to set up a business but don’t know how. I also have a Back to Basics programme which is for businesses that are stuck and no matter what you try they won’t go anywhere. I love what I did in the Corporate World and I love what I do now, because if it wasn’t what I learned in the Corporate World I wouldn’t be able to do what I do now.
