Ep.89 - All Good People Go To Heaven - Really?
Manage episode 443062220 series 3433767
It seems outside the walls of the church, the intuitive understanding held by many is that heaven is a place where good people go. People who have lived well, treated others fairly and tried loving and look after their family and friends. A place where, dare we say it, they deserve to go!
But what is good? And how good do we need to be to possess an assurance that after we die we’ve done enough to impress God? And what if God has a very different understanding of essential goodness? And what if the criteria for entry into heaven, happens to be nothing at all to do with how good we are or aren’t? Will goodness be enough? Is the only requirement God has of each individual life, nothing more than they simply try to be as good as they can and when they die, hope against hope that they’ve done enough?
This week Pete and the Curious Team take a deeper look into goodness, asking: is there a difference between our understanding of human goodness and God’s? They’ll also be examining whether our ‘being good’ was ever the intention of God for humankind in the first place! And if not, then how can a person truly get to heaven?
